Manchester City target five trophies in five years

Manchester City chief executive Ferran Soriano will tell the next manager of the club that he wants them to win five trophies in the next five years.
Speaking to reporters, Soriano is defiant that the next manager will have to deliver in the Manchester City hot seat next season.


“I would say I want to win five trophies in the next five years," he said. "That may mean we win no trophies one year and two in another, but on average I want one trophy or title a year.”

And it seems like that man will be Manuel Pellegrini, the current Malaga coach, who will leave the Spanish club at the end of the season. The 59-year-old Chilean has also been at the helm of Real Madrid - and after his departure from Malaga, he is the most likely man for the job.

Whoever takes the job will need to make a bold statement in their first season, with the Manchester City board demanding a lot from the next man who takes the reigns at the Etihad Stadium.

Soriano was also quick to indicate that whoever takes the job will not be guaranteed a long spell in charge to complete the “five-year plan".


“In football, teams have cycles and you can have managers who go through several cycles and managers who go through one cycle," Soriano continued. "Obviously, we want the next manager to stay for a number of years, but I think it would not be wise to speculate on the next manager being there for 26 years.

“There is an exception, and I think three, four and five years is one cycle,” finished Soriano, who is evidently suggesting that if silverware is not won immediately, the managers will be shown the door.
